The Visit by Friedrich Dürrenmatt

The Visit was premiered in Zurich in 1956 and immediately won an immense popularity.

It is a "tragic comedy" inspired by the post-war Europe, (especially Switzerland) and clearly exposes the corruption of justice by wealth.

The play very cleverly weaves between Greek tragedy and German Expressionism testing the limits of human being moral values.

I got inspired by Frida Khalo and her work. That images directed me to do some further research about anatomic hearts and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) blood cells pictures to connect with the 3D textile design I wanted to do.

I also found interesting to connect the “Catrina”, the Mexican symbol of death, with Claire, the main character of the play. They both represent a  grotesque caricature of the bourgeoisie class.
